Action Steps to Protect Your Pension

  • EDUCATE YOURSELF - discuss your pension system and any perceived or real threats at your Local meetings. Ask your state Council to provide speakers and information about this issue. And then educate others.

  • STAY ON POINT - know and understand the AFSCME message and avoid being distracted by well intentioned compromises or mean spirited attacks.

  • BECOME AN ADVOCATE SPEAKER on this issue - participate in a speaker bureau training program which will be offered by your state/local Council.

  • TAKE THE OFFENSIVE -  use letters to the editor to educate the general community

  • HELP TO FORM A PENSION CAUCUS at your state Council and coordinate with other Locals to support the Pension Caucus

  • KNOW YOUR AFSCME PENSION BOARD REP - Take an active role in making sure that AFSCME members are on retirement boards and in supporting their activism - it is a lot of work but it is about protecting the future for you and your brothers and sisters.
